【解説】
「〜のために」を表現する時はご存じ "because"を使いますが、理由の説明に文章ではなく節を使う場合は "because of 〜" を使います。
したがって、【１】は
"She was late for the date because the traffic jam."
と表現してはいけません。
"because of the traffic jam" や "because there was a traffic jam" が適切です。
